Illuminated signage in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
Once it gets dark early, the lighting decides whether a business is noticed at all. Unlit lettering on a facade disappears from late afternoon; the same lettering with light keeps working for as long as anyone walks past.
We plan, design, build and install illuminated signage for shops, restaurants, practices, offices and trade businesses across Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Which form makes sense — individual letters, a lightbox, LED neon or a combination — depends on the logo, on the facade and on the direction people approach from. That decision belongs at the start, not at the end.
Options and variants
These are the forms we build:
-
3D illuminated letters – Each letter is made and mounted on its own. The lettering reads as a solid shape in daylight too, rather than as a lit panel.
-
Lightbox signs – Logo and text on one closed, evenly lit surface. Robust and easy to read, and usually the most economical answer when there is a lot of text to fit.
-
LED neon – The look of neon as a flexible LED line, without gas. Suited to lettering, outlines and eye-catchers. Possible outdoors depending on the build; the protection rating and construction are chosen to match the mounting position.
-
Projecting signs – Mounted at right angles to the facade and therefore visible as you walk towards it. Worth considering where the street is narrow or people approach from the side.
-
Facade signage – Large-format treatment of the building front, with illuminated elements where wanted.
-
3D wall logos – A solid logo for reception, meeting room or shop floor, lit or unlit.
-
Pylon signs, totems and wayfinding – Free-standing signage and orientation on the site itself, for instance on trade estates and car parks.
-
Entrance signs – The company sign at the door, matched to the rest of the identity.
-
Bespoke builds – Where no standard form fits, the installation is engineered to measure.
Planning and design
It starts with the location. Where should the sign sit, which direction is it seen from, how much surface is available, and what is already competing for attention nearby? That determines which form and which size make sense at all — lettering that looks right on screen can be too fine on a facade ten metres away.
We check an existing logo for feasibility. Not every shape can be built as an illuminated body: very fine lines and tight counters set limits. Where necessary we prepare the artwork for production. If there is no design yet, we take that on.
Photographs of the facade and rough dimensions are enough for a first enquiry. On suitable projects we also check measurements and the mounting situation on site before production — which saves the surprise of an anchor point where nothing will hold.
You see a design before anything is made. Production starts after your approval.
Production
We build to the approved design. Which materials are used depends on the form and the location — acrylic (PLEXIGLAS®), aluminium and PVC combined with LED technology are the usual choices.
The lighting is LED, in 12 V technology depending on the build. For the power supply we use units suited to the installation, among them Mean Well. For outdoor use we choose components that match the mounting position; where the construction calls for it, LED modules rated IP65 are used. Which rating is needed depends on whether the sign is fully exposed to the weather, sits under a canopy or is mounted indoors. We settle that per project rather than as a blanket claim.
Installation
We fit it ourselves — the same people who made the design. On site the sign is aligned, fixed and connected, as far as the connection is part of the job.
Which fixing is right depends on the substrate: render, brick, concrete, metal and glass each call for a different solution. That is settled before production, not up a ladder. Where an existing sign is being replaced, we can remove it as part of the installation.
Our work is centred on Mecklenburg-Vorpommern; for installations, we come to you.
Typical applications
Illuminated signage earns its place wherever customers have to find the entrance — particularly when part of the opening hours falls after dark.
-
Restaurants, cafés and takeaways – Evening trade means the facade has to work in the evening.
-
Retail – Lettering and shop window work together; lit, the name stays present after closing time.
-
Hairdressers, barbershops and studios – Often in streets with foot traffic, where a projecting sign does more from the side than flat lettering on the facade.
-
Practices and offices – Quiet, clearly legible signage at the entrance, often with a wall logo in reception.
-
Workshops and trade businesses – Visible from the access road, and on larger sites via pylon or totem signs.
For hospitality we often combine illuminated signage with digital menu boards or printed menus — so the identity holds from the facade to the table.
Why OSTSEE Werbeagentur
It starts with a conversation about the location, the budget and what the sign actually has to do. That becomes a design you see before anything goes into production. We build to that design — and we fit it ourselves, rather than handing it to someone who never saw it.
Because all four steps happen in house, there is no point where responsibility changes hands. If something needs adjusting, you ring one number.
Completed projects
Illuminated Letters & Digital Menu Boards for Ganesha Taste of India
For the Indian restaurant Ganesha Taste of India we produced bespoke 3D illuminated letters and fitted them on site. We also installed digital screens and presented the menu on them in a clean, contemporary design. The result: outdoor signage that stands out and a digital menu that keeps working day and night.
3D Illuminated Letters for the Bis Morgen Kebab House
For the kebab house Bis Morgen we designed, produced and installed made-to-measure 3D illuminated letters. The result is outdoor signage that carries well and draws attention day and night.
Frequently asked questions
What does illuminated signage cost?
That depends on size, construction, material, the type of lighting, quantity, design work and the mounting situation — lettering above a ground-floor entrance is a different job from an installation on the second floor. Send us dimensions, a photograph of the facade and your logo, and we will price the actual project.
How long does it take to make?
That depends on the build, the scope, the materials and the installation. Once we have looked at the project we give you a realistic timeframe — one that holds, rather than one that sounds good.
Is the lighting suitable for outdoor use?
Signs built for outdoor use get components suited to it, including LED modules rated IP65 where the construction calls for it. Which rating is needed is decided by the mounting position: fully exposed, under a canopy or indoors are three different situations. We settle that per project.
Can our existing logo be built as illuminated signage?
In most cases, yes. We check the artwork for feasibility first — very fine lines, tight counters or gradients cannot be built in every form. Where it makes sense we suggest an adjustment that keeps the logo recognisable.
Is a power supply unit needed?
Yes. LED installations need a matching power supply; it is planned together with the sign and is part of the quote — depending on the installation we use units from manufacturers including Mean Well. Where it sits and how it stays accessible is settled with the installation.
Will you come out to measure up?
Photographs and rough dimensions are enough for the enquiry. On suitable projects we also check measurements and the mounting situation on site before production — which is the safer route for signs at height or on a difficult substrate.
Can old signage be replaced or removed?
Yes. Replacing, repairing and removing existing signage is part of what we do, and it can be combined with fitting the new installation.
Do you work outside Mecklenburg-Vorpommern?
Our work is centred on Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. We are glad to look at enquiries from further afield — whether an installation makes sense depends on the scope of the project.
